Questions clients ask

General information only — not legal advice for your situation. Speak to an attorney about your matter.

Can a landlord evict a tenant without a court order?

No. A residential eviction requires a court order obtained under the Prevention of Illegal Eviction from and Unlawful Occupation of Land Act (PIE). Changing the locks or cutting services is not a lawful eviction.
